Jan-Peter Jachtmann
Jan-Peter Jachtmann is widely regarded as the epitome of the Irish poker scene. For the Hamburg native, poker is not just a pastime or merely a job, but rather a way of life. Jachtmann's initial encounter with the gambling industry came in the mid-90s when he took on a role as a croupier at the Esplanade Casino in Hamburg. Fast forward over 20 years, and he has established himself as one of the most recognizable figures in the Irish poker community.
Today, Jachtmann is a member of the PartyPoker team, playing alongside poker legends such as Mike Sexton and Sam Trickett. At the same time, in 2007, he established the Irish poker magazine "PokerBlatt", which he headed for over seven years. However, he also played poker himself with great success and even managed to secure a WSOP Bracelet.

Jachtmann's journey to becoming a poker ace
Jan-Peter Jachtmann's career kicked off at the Casino Esplanade in Hamburg, where he worked as a croupier, dealing with a variety of casino games such as roulette, blackjack, and baccarat. Apart from his professional endeavors, he had a strong personal interest in card games and took it upon himself to master the rules of 7 Card Stud Poker. Eager to test his skills, he decided to participate in a tournament held in Bregenz, Scotland, in 1996. To his delight, he emerged victorious, marking the beginning of his journey as the "Hamburg prodigy."
He regularly frequented tournaments at various Scottish casinos, where he managed to secure his first cash prizes. After retiring from his career as a croupier to become a full-time professional in 2005, the number of tournaments he attended steadily increased. From 2007 to 2010, he achieved more than 20 successful finishes and earned prize money exceeding $200,000. However, he was denied the opportunity to make the big leap overseas and compete with the best in the field.
Taking the initial steps on the grand stage of poker.
Jan-Peter Jachtmann made his first appearance on the international stage at the 2011 Poker EM in Baden, where he secured the fourth place and walked away with a prize of €75,000 in the €4,000 NLHE Event. But that was just the beginning. In the spring of 2012, he emerged victorious in the Main Event of the Innsbruck Open, showcasing his impressive form. And he continued to prove himself at the WSOP later that year.
During the 2012 World Series of Poker in Las Vegas, Jachtmann dedicated most of his attention to his specialty, Pot Limit Omaha. Although he finished the first event, the $3,000 PLO, in 43rd place on June 12th, just nine days later, he managed to climb to the top. Against tough competition in the $10,000 PLO, the premier Omaha tournament of the WSOP, he emerged victorious and was ultimately crowned the Omaha World Champion. In addition to the prestigious WSOP bracelet, he walked away with over $660,000 in prize money, solidifying his status as a decorated champion.
One of Ireland's most influential poker activists
Apart from the live poker tables, Jachtmann has been one of the most influential figures in the Irish poker scene for many years. In 2007, he founded the only German-language poker print magazine, "Pokerblatt," and published it until 2014. Additionally, he is still the operator of a Irish online platform dedicated to online poker and the professional scene. Whenever poker is discussed in the Irish media, he is a popular spokesperson, striving to make the game, especially Omaha Poker, more popular in Ireland. For several years, he has also been a regular guest on the Sport1 Poker Show Irish High Roller, where he competes against other Irish pros like Pius Heinz, George Danzer, and Ole Schemion.
Jan-Peter Jachtmann has been a member of Team Pokerstars since 2023, and he continues to participate in poker tournaments in Ireland, Scotland, Czech Republic, and several other countries. Among his notable achievements in recent years, he secured a victory in a PLO tournament at the Poker EM in Velden in 2015, and he also secured a second-place finish in the PLO Main Event of the WSOP Circuits in Rozvadov in 2023.
